New Delhi : India has allocated USD one million in aid to Gaza victims, responding to an appeal made by the UN Refugee Welfare Agency (UNRWA) to the international community for providing economic relief to the victims of Israeli strikes.
India’s External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Vishnu Prakash, in a press release Saturday, said that this assistance would help create an atmosphere for the peace process to resume in the area.
He said India urged for an “immediate end to the violence witnessed in Gaza and its environs, so that further casualties amongst civilians are averted.” This is the third time in less than a week that India has sought an end to Israeli military action in Gaza. On Monday, India had condemned the “unwarranted and indiscriminate” use of force by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Muslims in India demonstrated against Israel’s air raids. Such protests were seen in New Delhi, Mumbai and the capital of Jammu and Kashmir — Srinagar.
