Soldier killed, 18 ppl wounded in SW Pakistan violence

Islamabad : At least nine people were wounded when local Baluch nationalist militants attacked a train carrying policemen in the southwestern Pakistani province of Baluchistan, said police on Saturday.

The Quetta Express carrying policemen was coming from Rawalpindi to Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan, when the militants of banned militants group, Baluch Republican Army (BRA), opened fire at a railway station near Sibbi, the gas-rich town, Friday night, police sources told KUNA.

They said the incident wounded at least nine people including the train driver and three policemen.

A purported spokesman for BRA, Serbaz Baluch, in a telephone call to Quetta Press Club from unknown location claimed responsibility for the attack and said only those train cars were targeted which were occupied by policemen.

In another incident, three explosions in Sibbi district killed a security personnel and wounded five others.

According to Frontier Core (FC) sources, three small roadside bombs exploded in Sibbi that killed FC personnel and wounded five others. At least three FC vehicles were also damaged in the incident, sources said.

Also, in a related incident, another FC vehicle hit a landmine in Tilli Mutt remote town of Baluchistan that wounded four FC personnel.
