Jammu, Kashmir clashes leave four militants, three Indian soldiers dead

New Delhi : Four militants and three Indian army personnel were killed in an ongoing encounter in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state which began Friday night in Poonch district.

Naresh Kumar, a special police officer, got killed Saturday morning, after clashes between militants and security forces resumed in the forest area of Mendhar in Poonch district this morning, official sources said.

The encounter resumed around midnight in Bhati Dhar forest of Mendhar area and Kumar was killed, they said, adding that the entire area had been cordoned off by the troops, who were also being assisted by a police special operation group.

According to the spokesman, Indian Army personnel Rakesh Kumar and PK Singh, besides four militants, had been earlier killed in the fierce gunbattle.

The sources, however, said the bodies of the slain militants had not been recovered as the firing continued.
