Jammu : A senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre officer and Principal Secretary (Home) Khurshid Ganai has been appointed as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He has been asked to hold the additional charge of administrative secretary home.
Well informed sources in the civil secretariat told News Agency of Kashmir that Ganai’s appointment has been confirmed by the chief minister Omar Abdullah and formal orders were issued by the General Administrative Department today.
Sources said that Ganai, was informed about the new posting by the chief minister office on Monday evening and he immediately left for Delhi to accompany Omar in the union capital.
Earlier the name of Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sudhanshu Pandey was making round for the coveted post.
A 1982 batch IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre Ganai was awarded with Chief Minister’s Gold Medal for honesty, integrity and meritorious service in 2007.
Ganai who hails from Mattan (near Anantnag) famous for having a temple, a Gurdwara and an Iddgah at one place, inspired the local youth when he achieved second position in the IAS examination in 1982. He has held various key positions in Jammu and Kashmir during his illustrious 25 year tenure.
Alumni of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani Rajasthan, Gani has done B.E. (Hons) Mechanical Engineering before passing the IAS examination.
