Chandigarh : The much awaited six-day sports extravaganza of 54th National School Games started at the Sector 42 Stadium here Thursday.
Competitions in handball, fencing, table tennis, skating and roller hockey events will be held here till Jan 13. These games are being organised by the Education department of Chandigarh under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
A total of 33 teams from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Punjab, Andaman and Nicobar and other states are participating in the event.
“Around 3,000 young players and 400 officials are taking part in this event. In the next few days the young budding players from all over the country will showcase their talent and level of confidence,” said Ram Niwas, home secretary, Chandigarh and chairman of the organising committee.
