Riyadh : The Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) welcomed Friday the UN resolution 1860 which called for establishing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said in a statement the UN resolution was a step in the right direction and should be implemented by all parties in the conflict.
While welcoming the UN resolution, Ihsanoglu said it was late thus caused the death of over 790 people and injury of some 3,300 others, as well as the destruction of properties and facilities.
He said the resolution did not tackle some important matters like the immediate Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, Israel’s respect of human rights, the international and humanitarian law.
He called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to make sure of the implementation of the resolution and to make sure that Israel cease its aggression and withdraw from Gaza, and open the crossings to allow entry of relief supplies.
Ihsanoglu said the UN General Assembly could discuss the Palestinian issue in its 10th round.
He condemned Israel for continuing to kill innocent civilians and the international humanitarian organisations and their staff in Gaza.
