Sri Lankan parliament adjourned following opposition’s protest

Colombo : Sri Lankan parliamentary sessions were halted Friday when the main opposition staged a demonstration in the chamber over the killing of a senior editor, parliamentary officials said.

Parliament sessions were suspended Friday morning as the United National Party legislators held up placards blaming the government over Thursday’s gunning down of Lasantha Wickramatunga, the editor of the pro-opposition Sunday Leader newspaper.

Wickramatunga was killed by unidentified gunmen while driving to his office on Thursday in a suburb area of the capital Colombo.

The UNP legislators also blamed the government for the attack on the privately owned MTV television station happened on Tuesday.
