Israeli soldiers killed in ambush — Islamic Jihad

Gaza : Several Israeli soldiers were reportedly killed early Saturday in northern Gaza Strip by activists of Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Islamic Jihad.
In a statement, the brigades said its activists ambushed Israeli soldiers stationed at one of the houses in Beit Lahiya, close to the American School, killing several troops and wounding others.

It said the activists used RPGs, hand grenades and other weapons in the attack, and were able to withdraw from the area safely.

Meanwhile, an Israeli army spokesman told Radio Israel that five soldiers were wounded in clashes with Palestinians in different parts of the Strip.

He said the confrontations were mainly in the eastern Gaza districts of Zaitoun and Shujaiya districts, as well as in the northern outskirts of Jabaliya.

The wounded soldiers were taken to hospitals in southern Israel for treatment, he said.

Al-Quds Brigades, in another statement, said that one of its activists was killed in an air raid this morning in western Gaza City.

It identified the activist as Shams Omar, 24, who died in a raid on at Shatea refugee camp.

Meanwhile, Israeli planes continued to target different areas in Gaza Strip.

Apaches fired at the home of Saeed Abu Matar in Sheikh Radhwan district, destroying the house and wounding several of its residents, including a child, said witnesses.

Moreover, the residential building in which Samir Khalifa, a journalist for Sudan TV, lived was also fired at by Israeli tanks stationed at Zaitoun district.

The journalist told KUNA that tanks opened fire at the five-storey residential building he was living in with his brothers, but said that his family escaped after evacuating to one of the lower floors.
