New Delhi : The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the Delhi Police commissioner and five officers after two men alleged that they had, without reason, been mercilessly beaten up in a police station.
Justice G.S. Sistani issued notice earlier this week after the two men approached the court alleging they had been mercilessly beaten without any reason.
Petitioners Azmat Khan and Akram Khan, through counsel Aditya Aggarwal, contended that they were beaten up in the Seelampur area of northeast Delhi and asked the police to file their reply by Jan 23.
According to the petitioner, Azmat and Akram had Oct 25 last year stopped three policemen from beating a small child.
In retaliation, the three policemen Nov 2, 2008 beat up Azmat and Akram, Aggarwal informed the court.
“Due to the extreme beating by the police officials, both of them have suffered lot of physical and mental pain and Akram had to have his knee operated and could not work,” Aggarwal added.
The petitioners have sought directions to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the erring police officials under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
