Clashes in northern Pakistan kill over 76

Islamabad : More than 76 people, including six security personnel and five foreign militants, have been killed in clashes that have been ongoing for several days in the northern Pakistan belt between security forces, militants and rival religious groups.

Taliban militants Sunday attacked Frontier Core (FC) checkpost in Mohmand tribal agency, close to Afghan border, security sources told KUNA.

They said the attack left six FC personnel dead and wounded about seven others.
Sources said that the security forces launched a retaliatory operation and targeted suspected militant hideouts.

They said that while the operation was still ongoing and the two sides have exchanging heavy fire, more than forty militants, including at least five foreigners, have been reportedly killed and several were wounded.

Meanwhile, in the three-day long clashes between rival religious groups in Hungu town, about 150 kilometers north of Islamabad, more than thirty have been killed and dozens of wounded have been admitted in the hospitals.

According to police sources, the two sides were still exchanging intermittent fire and that daily life in the town has been paralyzed.
