Chandigarh : The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Wednesday announced financial help for former state players who are not covered under the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) gratis scheme for former cricketers.
PCA’s honorary secretary M.P. Pandove, who is also joint secretary of the BCCI, said that the BCCI’s jubilee gratis scheme had covered players who had played minimum 25-29 Ranji Trophy matches with a monthly grant of Rs.10,000 each in recognition of their services.
The PCA has now said that they will provide financial help to players who are not covered under the BCCI scheme.
Under its scheme, PCA will give a grant of Rs.5,000 per month to players who have made 10-24 appearances for Punjab in Ranji Trophy matches.
“The players who have made their contribution to cricket in the state deserve financial help to make their retirement years more comfortable. PCA is the first state cricket association to formulate such a scheme over and above the BCCI scheme,” said Pandove, a former first-class cricketer and Punjab state captain.
The scheme will cover several players of yesteryears who played fewer than 25 matches for the Punjab team.
