“Out of the shortlisted officers to head the NIA, Raju has emerged as the hot contender for the top job,” an official source told IANS here.

Raju, an IPS officer of 1975 batch, was a key member of the police team that probed the 1991 assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Presently posted as the head of Jammu and Kashmir’s anti-corruption organisation, Raju has held various important postings during his tenure.

“His deputation to the centre has been cleared by the state government,” the source said.
