About 400,000 government staff, banded under the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), will also launch an agitation if the announcement implementing the pay panel recommendations was not made by the month-end, said EJAC leader Ram Lal Sharma.

“Employees will go on a day’s strike on January 28. We will chalk out future action after that,” Sharma said.

The employees’ organisation is also demanding that the retirement age of state government employees be raised from 58 years to 60 years, on par with central government officials. In addition, it also wants regularising of services of daily wage workers.

At his first interaction with reporters after becoming the chief minister, Omar Abdullah had said in Jammu that his government was considering implementing the Pay Commission recommendation.
