Islamabad : Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Friday that no Pakistani will be handed over to India, suspecting of having connections with the Mumbai attackers.
India has given a list of few members of the banned militant groups, whom it suspects of involvement in the attacks in Mumbai in November which killed around 170 people.
“We will never hand over any Pakistani to India,” PM Gilani told reporters.
“If there is a need they would be tried in Pakistan under our own laws and will be punished if found guilty,” he said.
He said Pakistan has no extradition treaty with India and that is why there is no question of handing over any Pakistani citizens to India.
The Prime Minister said foreign hands were involved in the violence in the country’s northwest, where the army is battling militants.
Three soldiers and three civilians were killed in two attacks on security forces in the restive Swat valley on Friday.
“There are Chechans, Uzbeks, Arabs, Afghans and militants from other countries in the northwest and they are behind the violence,” Gilani said.
To a question about the government policy of the use of force in Swat, the Prime Minister answered that the policy would be revisited.
“A new strategy with the consent of the army and civil institutions will be chalked out to restore peace in Swat,” he said.
