Chandigarh : The Chandigarh administration Sunday withdrew the name of an hotelier – accused in a fraud case – from the list of Republic Day awardees, a day before the honours were to be conferred at a function here Monday.
Baldev Aggarwal was among the people chosen for this year’s state level awards by the administration for their outstanding services in their respective fields.
Aggarwal was nominated for the award for his outstanding social services.
“There is a cheating case registered against Aggarwal that is still under the court jurisdiction,” Manjit Brar, director of public relations, Chandigarh, told IANS.
Brar said Aggarwal had hidden the information about “a criminal case of money fraud” pending against him.
“After getting a formal complaint, the administration immediately withdrew his name from the list of awardees.”
Earlier Friday, the administration had announced 17 people, including Aggarwal, for the state level award.
