Raipur : Chhattisgarh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan took the salute at the Republic Day parade held here Monday and praised the commitment of the security forces battling Maoist insurgency in the state.
Addressing the crowd gathered at the police parade ground, Narasimhan said: “I appreciate the commitment that the security forces and the people of Chhattisgarh have towards bringing an end to Maoist violence.
“The nation can record progress only if it has made enough security arrangements to counter attacks from external as well as internal forces. Terrorism and Maoist insurgency are the threats to the country’s unity and integrity.”
Referring to the thousands of people uprooted from their homes in the southern Bastar region due to Maoist violence, Narasimhan said: “The Chhattisgarh government is committed to providing them security and ensuring that they are properly rehabilitated.”
The hoisting of the tricolour and Narasimhan’s 10-minute speech were followed by an impressive cultural show by school children. The highlight of the function thereafter was a display by police sniffer dogs of their prowess.
