Imphal : The Manipur government Wednesday suspended five police commandos for allegedly extorting money and mobile phones from civilians, an officer here said.
“The commandos took away cash amounts and cell phone sets by force from two civilians at Khuman Lampak area near here in Imphal West district Monday,” Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) M. Karnajit Singh said.
The relatives of the victims had lodged a complaint with the Imphal West police station following which the commandos were suspended, Singh said.
Earlier on several occasions police commandos trained in special counter insurgency operations have been suspended from services in Manipur for allegedly molesting women, torturing people and various other charges.
