Dr Sherwani has called upon all Aligarians and sympathizers of the University to request the Vice Chancellor to organize a convention at Aligarh through which “the Union government must be pressurized to settle the Minority issue through Parliamentary legislation once for all, so that the changing judicial parameters about the whole concept of ‘minorityism’ may not be able to assail the AMU minority character off and on.”

“Aligarh Muslim University Minority issue is pending before the Supreme Court. Nobody can predict what the verdict will be, and how long it will take. Unfortunately, this time we do not have any specific body, like the Aligarh Muslim University Action Committee, which synchronized the agitation when during the regime of Mrs Indira Gandhi the minority character was scrapped.”

In the absence of any organized Muslim pressure group, it is the intelligentsia which must come forward for the cause, he said.
