During the question hour, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj asked Home Minister P. Chidambaram whether the central government would take back the assistance granted to the West Bengal government for rehabilitating the victims of Cyclone Aila.

She also referred to the incidents when the central government took back the funds from the Bihar and Orissa governments. Bihar was granted assistance to rehabilitate the Kosi flood victims.

In reply, Chidambaram said it was not the practice of the UPA government to give money and take it back.

Protesting against the home minister’s statement, JD-U and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) members raised slogans against the UPA government. The JD-U members also entered the well of the house raising slogans during the zero hour.

Speaker Meira Kumar’s repeated attempts to pacify the members did not yield result and she finally adjourned the house.
