State Congress chief Dhanendra Sahu Monday said that the shutdown is to highlight the failure of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in controlling the Maoist violence in the state.

Meanwhile, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister Raman Singh, Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar and Director General of Police Vishwaranjan laid wreaths on the bodies of the killed policemen at parade ground in Rajnandgaon town.

In state capital Raipur, hundreds of people turned up at Devendra Nagar crematorium to attend the funeral of Vinod Kumar Choubey, 49, Rajnandgaon superintendent of police, killed in one of the attacks.
