New Delhi: Asif Ali shah, a heir to the great warrior of independence Tipu Sultan, has been living a destitute life in Kolkata. Now Karnataka government has assured him to provide better facilities for his daily life.
Karnataka government recently assured state legislature that adequate assistance will be provided to heirs of the ‘Lion of Mysore’, presently settled in Kolkata so that they may start a new life again. Minister for minority welfare in the state Prof. Mumtaz Khan told that the government has been approached in this connection.
According to Prof. Mumtaz, a committee formed in leadership of ex-vice chancellor of Goa University has forwarded its recommendations in this connection. Asif Ali Shah himself has several time requested the government to return him his family property. Prof. Mumtaz was their host during one of these visits when they came with a memorandum and stayed with him for three months.
On this occasion, the opposition leader V. S. Yuruppa expressed disappointment and said, “Even nine years after submission of report by the committee, no action was taken and the heirs of the ‘Lion of Mysore’ had to continue facing trouble after trouble.” Secular Janata Dal leader M. C. Naniya said, “Chief Minister should have taken some step earlier because the case has been highlighted earlier.”
