BSNL to raise Rs.10,000 crore from tower sharing business

New Delhi : State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) hopes to generate Rs.1,000 crore ($207 million) of revenue in a year from its infrastructure sharing business.

“The master sharing agreement (MSA) for sharing of BSNL towers is in the final stages with some telecom operators and likely to be finalised very soon,” the company said in a statement Friday.

BSNL with almost 40,000 towers across the country is aggressively working towards sharing its infrastructure with existing and new telecom operators.

The company has also decided to hire infrastructure from infrastructure providers to speed up the roll-out for mobile network in different states.

The operator incurred a loss of nearly 21 percent in 2008-09, with revenues falling to Rs.11,505 crore from Rs.14,499 crore the previous year.
