“On an average, 300 to 350 youths are being recruited every year in the Indian Air Force from the northeastern region, comprising eight states,” said Wing Commander I.V.R. Rao, commanding officer of the airmen selection centre in Guwahati.

“Lack of awareness about the Indian Air Force is the main reason for less representation from the northeastern region in the elite force,” he told the media ahead of the four day special recruitment rally cum awareness programme beginning here June 17.

In the special recruitment rally, enrolment would be conducted as airmen – for both technical and non-technical trades.

“Promotion up to the rank of Master Warrant Officer exists to the deserving airmen while opportunities to become a commissioned officer also exist for those airmen who qualify the prescribed examination later in their service career,” Rao added.
