AP: Muslim problems will be solved, YSR assures JIH

Hyderabad: The Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has promised speedy action on the problems and issues of Muslim minority in Andhra Pradesh including the implementation of Sachar Committee recommendations.

Talking to the delegation of the leaders of Jamat-e-Islami Andhra Pradesh at his camp office on Saturday, the Chief Minister also assured to create a joint mechanism with the Jamat leaders to monitor the fulfilling the ‘People’s Manifesto” presented by Jamat to Congress before the elections.

Jamat had placed the “People’s manifesto to all the parties saying it will support the party which will commit itself to its implementation. The manifesto included the problems of the farmers, the rural economy, education and employment apart from the problems of the Muslim community including the protection of the community from harassment by the police and the protection and development of Wakf property.

“The Chief Minister assured us that he will do every thing needful and initiate steps to fulfill these promises”, said Mohammed Azharuddin, the secretary, state unit of Jamat.

The delegation led by the state unit president Malik Moatasim Khan included senior leaders of Jamat Mohammed Abdul Ghaffar and Khwaja Arifuddin.

“The meeting was essentially to congratulate the Chief Miniter on his election victory and also remind him about the election manifesto which we had presented to him and the state Congress president D Srinivas”.

The former minister for minority welfare Mohammed Ali Shabbir who lost the assembly elections, was also present during the meeting.

The Chief Minister has already made it clear that the four percent reservation for the economically backward groups of Muslims in the government jobs and education will continue, the pending case in the High Court notwithstanding. He also promised to conduct an all party meeting to discuss the implementation of the recommendations of Sachar committee report which come in the purview of the state government.

Jamat had announced its support to the Congress party in 267 of the 294 assembly constituencies and 37 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. In the remaining constituencies it supported other candidates based on their personal character and commitment to the Muslim problems and issues.
