In April this year, a central government team led by former National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) chief P.K. Sen claimed that there were no tigers left in Panna. The team is likely to submit its report to the central government by the end of June.

“The state government has also fixed the terms of reference of the experts committee constituted to probe the reasons responsible for the steep decline in the numbers of tigers in Panna in the last few years and urged the wildlife lovers to give their suggestions, if any, to the committee latest by June 30, 2009,” Madhya Pradesh Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) H.S. Pabla told IANS.

“The committee would study the biological and administrative reasons for the dwindling number of big cats in Panna and suggest ways and means to prevent the recurrence of such a situation in the future,” Pabla said.

He added that anyone who is interested to participate in a discussion with the committee can inform the office of the chief wildlife warden in Bhopal by June 30 and they would be informed about the time and date of the discussion.
