“She was called up for her help in identifying the accused policemen, but during the re-examination of her statement contradictions were found and these are being examined,” Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.

A Crime Branch source said: “The woman could not identify the four policemen. She could not even tell the place where she was raped. In our investigation we also found that SHO (Station House Officer) Pradeep Kumar was not even present in the police station at the time when she alleged that she was raped.”

Police sources said they were now awaiting for forensic reports of her clothes and vaginal swabs.

The woman has alleged that Inderpuri police station SHO Pradeep Kumar and four constables raped her in a lock-up on the second floor of the police station building Monday afternoon.

The allegation soon led to a riotous situation in Inderpuri area in southwest Delhi, and several vehicles, including those of the media and TV channels, were damaged in stone throwing by mobs.

The case was registered just past Tuesday midnight when the woman appeared before sleuths of the Crime Branch and recorded her statement before them.
