14 militants, seven Afghan policemen killed in fresh clashes

Kabul : Two separate gun battles in western Afghanistan killed 14 militants and seven policemen, officials said on Sunday. The first gunfight took place in Bala Bulook district of the western Farah province. The fighting claimed eight lives – six Taliban and two policemen. A provincial official said the Afghan police was supported by the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). Commander of the NATO-led ISAF had visited the same district two days back to meet the troops of the multinational forces and review the security. In a separate incident in Khashrod district, eight militants and five policemen were killed. Police officials in the province said the clash lasted for less than an hour following which the militants fled the area. The official said a search operation was being conducted in the area to flush out or arrest the militants hiding there.
