EU-India ministerial meeting to discuss bilateral cooperation

Brussels : An EU-India foreign ministers troika will take place in Prague on Monday to discuss cooperation between the 27-mempber European bloc and India in several areas including political, trade, human rights issues. “This EU-India Foreign Ministers Troika is timely as the EU and India must join efforts to confront global issues and regional challenges,” said EU Commissioner for external relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner in press statements.

The meeting will be attended by, Czech Foreign Affairs Minister Jan Kohout, whose country holds the current EU Presidency, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Ferrero-Waldner.

Ongoing negotiations on a free trade agreement, a maritime agreement, energy and the strengthening of political dialogue in the fields of human rights and the fight against terrorism are on the agenda of the meeting, according to an EU Presideny statement.

India’s delegation will be led by the new Foreign Affairs Minister Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna.
The meeting will also be attended by Swedish State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Frank Belfrage.

Sweden assumes the six-month rotating EU Presidency from July 1.
