Gandhinagar : The Gujarat government has decided to develop world-class facilities at two lesser-known beaches in the state’s Saurashra region to attract more international tourists to the state, an official said.
“The process of developing tourist facilities such as water front development for tourists to take a walk, a multi-cuisine restaurant, beautification of areas in proximity of the beaches and construction of a connecting road would be major attractions at selected beaches near the Okha port and Una in Jamnagar district and one being planned in Amreli district of Saurashtra region, a senior official in the chief minister’s office said here.
The entire process will be monitored personally by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi who is taking a special interest in developing beaches for attracting foreign tourists to the Saurashtra-Kutch region. The development of beaches is being taken up under the state government’s ambitious “Sagarkhedu” project.
The work for the development of the selected beaches has already started but would gather pace after the monsoon season as most of the beaches in the Saurashtra-Kutch region experience high velocity winds during the monsoon season with a rough sea making it difficult to take up any developmental work during the period, the official added.
