“We are still ready to have talks with the Congress party. It’s up to Soniaji now to think in her party’s interest,” Mulayam Singh told reporters at the party headquarters here.

“In the future also, we would always be ready to hold talks with the Congress,” he said as uncertainty still prevails over a pre-poll alliance between the two parties.

Mulayam Singh also announced that on the recommendation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebel Kalyan Singh, the Samajwadi Party will field Zafar Alam from Aligarh.

Also, Kalyan Singh’s son Rajvir Singh said he would not contest this time. “I have made it clear that this time I will not contest the elections, but extend my full support to the party as an active worker,” said Rajvir.
