Kolkata : One person was killed and 12 others injured in an explosion in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district Wednesday, police said.
“There was an explosion at Chowpatty market in Alipurduar around 11.10 a.m. Wednesday. The bomb was kept in a bicycle,” Inspector General (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told IANS on phone from Siliguri.
“According to official reports, one person died and 12 others were injured in the blast. The condition of three is serious,” he said.
“It is too early to say who are the people behind the blast or the kind of explosives used in the incident. Our officers are there and only after proper investigation, we will be able to come up with the details.”
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty said there are no links between the upcoming general elections and the blast.
“There are no links between the Lok Sabha elections and today’s (Wednesday’s) blast. It is not a political incident but work of unidentified terrorists,” Chakraborty told a local news channel.
