New Delhi : With more crimes becoming transnational and requiring investigations in other countries, it is becoming essential for police officers to have a proper understanding of the necessary rules and procedures, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Ashwini Kumar said here Friday.
“More and more crimes are becoming transnational and most cyber crimes involve some part of investigation abroad. Therefore, a knowledge of rules and procedures for conducting such investigation through instruments such as red corner notices, letters rogatory, extradition and deportation, now has become essential for most of the investigators at the cutting edge level,” he said.
A few years back, these were considered a core area only for officers working in agencies such as CBI, the CBI chief said, inaugurating the one-day 3rd Interpol Liaison Officers’ (ILOs) Conference here.
The conference was organised by the CBI, which represents India in the Interpol. At present, Interpol has 187 countries as its members.
The CBI chief also advised the ILOs to perform the same role in their respective countries. 22 ILOs attended the Conference.
“It needs to be kept in mind that whenever dealing with requests from foreign countries, apart from the legal issues and the policy of the government, the larger perspective of national interest also assume significance,” he said.
