New Delhi : Supporters of Parvesh Verma, son of late Sahib Singh Verma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Friday staged a protest outside L.K. Advani’s house here after he was denied a ticket for the Lok Sabha elections.
Over 200 supporters of Verma marched to Advani’s residence on Prithviraja Road in the capital and shouted slogans against the party.
Verma was in the BJP’s list of probables from Delhi, but his name did not appear in the final list of seven candidates the party announced Thursday.
“It is shocking to hear that Verma was denied a ticket and the party will have to suffer in west Delhi constituency as people in the area are sulking after the party’s decision,” said Rakesh Singh, a supporter of Verma.
Senior BJP leader and four times legislator from Janakpuri, Jagdish Mukhi, has been named as the party candidate from the constituency.
Sahib Singh Verma, former Delhi chief minister and BJP vice-president, died in a cas crash near Delhi in June 2007.
