Ranchi : Anrgy over their party’s seat sharing arrangement with the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) in Jharkhand, some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers Sunday protested and locked the party’s headquarters here for several hours.
The BJP has decided to support JD-U candidates from Chatra and Palamau Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, inviting angry reaction from the party activists.
The BJP had won the two seats in 1999 Lok Sabha elections and lost them in the 2004 polls.
Hundreds of BJP workers, led by legislators Satyanand Bhokta and Ravindra Rai, locked the main gate of the party headquarters and shouted slogans asking the party leaders to revoke the decision.
They said the JD-U had no base in Chatra and Palamau.
“Why JD-U has been conceded both seats and under what compulsion?” Ravindra Rai told reporters.
The angry BJP workers were pacified by Ranjan Patel, organisational secretary of the party. The workers unlocked the gate of the party office.
More than 2,000 BJP workers in Palamau and Chatra have quit to proest the party decision.
