Indian PM begins consultations to firm up India’s stand ahead of G20

New Delhi : India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (photo) has begun consultations with his Cabinet colleagues and Planning Commission to firm up India’s stand ahead of G-20 Summit in London next week.

Singh held consultations with the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia on Wednesday in this connection.

He will be meeting captains of industry on Saturday.

Over 20 leading industrialists including heads of banks have been invited for the Saturday meeting being held at the Prime Minister’s residence.

Among other things, Singh is also likely to discuss with industrialists the impact of steps taken by the government and the Reserve Bank of India to revive the economy reeling under the impact of the global financial crisis.

Meanwhile, China has expressed its keenness to work with New Delhi in mitigating the impact of global financial crisis.

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan told reporters in New Delhi that meeting can be held on the sidelines of the G-20 to firm up the strategy in the Summit.

Both countries had extensively consulted each other beside Russia and Brazil in the run up to the first G-20 Summit on the financial crisis held in Washington last year.
