Bhubaneswar : The Orissa government Wednesday confirmed two more deaths due to sunstroke, which takes to 24 the heat wave toll in the state this summer.
“We have confirmed two more deaths due to sunstroke,” an official of the state revenue control room said, adding that the toll has risen to 24.
An unusual heat wave continued to sweep the state with several places recording temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius Wednesday.
While the highest temperature of the day was recorded at towns of Talcher and Sambalpur, each at 45 degrees Celsius, the western town of Bolangir and Jharsuguda recorded 44.5 and 44.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
The state capital Bhubaneswar and its adjoining Cuttack city recorded 39.4 degrees and 39.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
Temperature remained on the lower side at some coastal towns with Puri and Gopalpur recording 33 degrees and 31.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
