Karachi : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is working on devising a comprehensive strategy to ensure that it gets it share of the 2011 World Cup profit even after being deprived of the hosting rights of 14 games of the quadrennial spectacle.
Sources in the PCB told IANS Wednesday that Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, has instructed his team to prepare a full-fledged strategy which he intends to take to the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting next month.
According to the sources, the PCB will give its best shot to ensure that the ICC agrees to compensate Pakistan after stripping it of its status as a World Cup co-host.
The ICC last month decided to take away the World Cup games from Pakistan because of security concerns.
The PCB later said that it estimated financial losses of $10.5 million because of the World Cup move from Pakistan.
According to details, the ICC pays out the host country $750,000 for each World Cup match. Pakistan was scheduled to host 14 matches including one semi-final.
Since last year when the ICC shifted the Champions Trophy from Pakistan to South Africa and India refused to play a bilateral series here, the PCB has suffered losses of more than $40 million, leaving the body in bad financial shape.
Sources said that the PCB boss will put up his demand of financial compensation at the ICC annual general meeting in June.
