37 militants, 4 securitymen died in swat clashes – ISPR

Islamabad : As many as 37 militants were killed while four security personnel embraced shahadat and six others sustained injuries during the last 24 hours in different parts of Swat, said an ISPR news release update.

“Militants in gross violation of peace accord, continued firing at various check posts of security forces in Kanju, Saidu Sharif, Matta and other areas of Swat. Militants have planted IEDs in various areas of Swat to inflict causalities on security forces and civilians,” it said.

On Wednesday at around 1200 hours, two soldiers embraced shahadat due to an Improvised Explosive Device blast in Bahrain, Swat.

Armed militants have come down from their hideouts into the cities and have occupied civil houses and government buildings and have looted three Banks in Mingora city besides occupying the offices of DIG Police and Commissioner at Mingora.

Exchange of fire took place between militants and Police at Saidu Sharif and Matta Police Station where two militants were reportedly killed.

Security forces were being targeted from Emarald Mines, in retaliatory fire 35 militants were killed around emerald mines at Takhtaband by pass.

The operation in Buner and lower Dir is progressing smoothly and search and cordon operation is being carried out in various areas.

Meanwhile, militants were engaged in Sultan where a girls college was fired upon with rockets by militants causing partial damage to the building.

On Tuesday, two Security forces personnel embraced Shahadat due to militants firing at Mingora Grid Station while Six others were injured due to firing in various areas of Swat.

In DERA ISMAIL KHAN, at least 15 worshipers sustained injuries when unknown miscreants threw a hand grenade inside a mosque at Mohallah Kanaria Wala in interior city here Wednesday night, police said.

The people were busy in ‘Isha’ prayers when a miscreant hurled a hand grenade in Ahle-Tashi mosque Kachi Wali in the limits of City police station and escaped from the scene by taking advantage of darkness.

Ten persons were wounded and shifted to hospital where condition of some of them was stated to be critical.

Police cordoned off the area and started search operation.

Doctors on leave have been called in for duty.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani have strongly condemned the hand-grenade attack on the mosque.

The President and the Prime Minister in their separate messages expressed their grief over the tragic incident and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.

They directed the concerned authorities to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to justice.
