Lucknow : An alleged henchman of gangster Dawood Ibrahim was arrested Friday by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Rae Bareli and a live grenade and explosive material recovered from him.
A police spokesman said “the man has been identified as Naushad Ali, who was also known by a couple of other names like Akram and Nasir Ali. We have recovered a live grenade, with some gelatine sticks and detonators from his possession.”
He said: “Interrogation of Naushad Ali has revealed that he had his base in Krishna Nagar area of Nepal and he works under the direction of Dawood’s right hand man Bashir.”
The spokesman said “Naushad Ali has also disclosed that he was assigned to carry out blasts in the ordnance factory at Kanpur and on the Rajdhani Express passing Kanpur, where the required explosives were to be delivered to him by some other agent.”
The arrested man is stated to have confessed his involvement in providing safe passage via Nepal to Dawood’s family members while they were on the run from Mumbai after the 1992 blasts.
