Political crisis cost us dear: Shibu Soren

By IANS,

Ranchi : Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren Saturday admitted that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) failed to perform well in the elections in Jharkhand and said it was due to the “political crisis” in the state.

“Political crisis caused poor performance of the UPA in the state. In politics, drought and famine come and go,” Soren told reporters in Bokaro.

Soren is recuperating at home in Bokaro after he underwent open heart surgery earlier this month.

Of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand, JMM won two and the Congress one. In 2004, JMM had won four seats and Congress six.

Jharkhand is currently under president’s rule as no alliance came forward to form a government after Soren resigned as chief minister in January. He then fought and won the Jamtara assembly by-election Saturday – to form an alterative government in the state with the support of the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Asked about forming an alternative government, Soren said: “I am in a wait and watch position.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won three seats and was leading in five parliamentary constituencies as votes were being counted early Saturday evening.
