New Delhi: If Delhi police has its way, undertrials lodged in the high security Tihar jail may soon travel in air conditioned rail coaches if their presence is required in any other courts in the country.
There was a representation made to the Delhi government by the Delhi police that under recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, they are entitled to avail the facility of AC three-tier berth in trains while escorting undertrials to other states on a transit remand but they cannot because undertrials are only entitled to the general class, Tihar jail spokesperson Sunil Gupta said.
According to sources, the matter is being considered by the Delhi government and a final decision will be taken in the matter soon.
