After calling on Karunakaran, Defence Minister A.K. Antony said when he was leaving, Karunakaran had raised his hand in farewell.

“I am told that his condition is better when compared to when he was admitted,” Antony told reporters.

Besides senior Congress leaders, several ministers of Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front also came to see Karunakaran.

The 91-year old veteran politician was Friday morning subjected to a detailed scan and his family members said that his condition was improving.

A medical bulletin issued by the hospital authorities said that Karunakaran was making good progress.

“He is responding to medicines and improving. He will be under close medical attention for some more time,” it said.

The hospital, situated close to the new airport, has been swamped by Karunakaran’s supporters and a large number of Congress workers are outside since he was admitted.
