Srinagar Times Editor Sofi Ghulam Muhammad passed away

Srinagar: The Editor-in-Chief of leading Urdu daily Srinagar Times’s Sofi Ghulam Mohammad died here today morning.

Veteran journalist and former member of Jammu and Kashmir legislative council Sofi Ghulam Mohammad died after a prolonged illness.

Sofi, who founded the Srinagar Times in early 60s, breathed his last in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) at Soura, where he was under treatment for the past two weeks..

He was not only well known Urdu journalist in this country but also in neighbouring Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).

With the spread of 75-year-old sofi’s death, thousands of his readers rushed his Buchwara residence.

Meanwhile, leaders of different mainstream political parties, separatists organizations, social and religious organizations have expressed profound grief over the death of Soffi.

Sofi started his journalistic career as a reporter in Congress mouthpiece Khidmat in 1960s and launched his own newspaper, Srinagar Times, in 1969.

He was President of Kashmir Press Club and Daily Newspaper Editors Conference on different times.

The Cultural Academy Award winner Sofi have won the award on many books including, Loosmet Tarakh and Sheeshi-Te-Sangistan.

A group of journalists in different organizations in the valley including Agence India Press paid tribute to a veteran journalist, and said the news industry have lost a diamond in the shape of sofi.
