Kochi: Adv T Asafali has been selected the Kerala state president of the Indian Lawyers’ Congress. He was nominated by the KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala to the post.
Asafali hails from Thalasseri in Kannur district. He is presently the president of the People’s Council for Civil Rights. He is also a member of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee and the general secretary of the Kannur District Congress Committee.
Adv TPM Ibrahim Khan was the last president. He resigned as he was appointed the Additional Solicitor General to represent the central government in the Kerala High Court. Adv Asafali came to prominence by his stand against the CPI (M) general secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the Lavalin scam. Asafali had submitted petition in the High Court related to the scam.
