Kasargod firing: Transfer for SP Ramdas Pothen

Malappuram: The Superintendent of Police in Kasargod, Ramdas Pothen, who has been in controversy related to police firing and death of a youth, has been transferred by the Kerala government. The transfer came along with the transfer of several other top police officers.

Ramdas Pothen, SP of Kasargod, has been transferred to the nearby district of Kannur. P Prakash, presently Deputy Commissioner of Kochi, will be the new SP of Kasargod. Mr Pothen was recently in news as he had reportedly fired at a youth when clashes occurred in Kasargod city following the public meeting of the Muslim League. Mr Pothen was removed from charge of law and order due to the controversy. He is now in Sabarimala, he Hindi pilgrimage centre, on special duty. The Muslim League and the United Democratic Front (of which the Muslim League is a party) have been demanding the removal of Mr Pothen from his duty and to charge him with murder. The UDF also called for a judicial probe which the government has agreed to.

The transfer of 16 police officers is reportedly aimed at the betterment of law and order situation in the state, which is at an alarmingly worsening level in recent times.
