Malappuram: The Tirurangadi Muslim Yatheem Khana has been selected for the Sheikh Ansari Award of this year. The award is instituted by the Dayapuram Educational and Cultural Centre in Calicut and consists of Rs 1 lakh as cash prize.
The Tirurangadi Muslim Yatheem Khana was established by late MK Haji in 1943. The orphanage has been working for the empowerment of orphans and poor children for the last seven decades.
The ‘Citizens for Justice and Peace’ in Mumbai has also been selected for the award. The organization which stood for secularism during the tense times of the Mumbai terror is headed by famous social activist Teesta Setalvad.
