Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit, reacting to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s call to take tougher action against Al-Qaeda and find Osama bin Laden, has said no one should doubt Pakistans efforts in the war against terror.

The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) cited the spokesman as pointing out that over 700 Al-Qaeda operatives were captured or killed over the past eight years, a sign of Pakistans commitment to the cause.

Pakistan was surprised by Brown’s call that the country needs to do more in the campaign against Al-Qaeda, he said, adding, the world community has appreciated Pakistans efforts in the war on terror.

He urged the world powers especially the United Kingdom to avoid media statements and share credible intelligence information (if any) about the whereabouts of Bin Laden with Pakistan to enable it to act promptly.
A week ahead of Pakistani Prime Ministers visit to UK, Brown has repeated the “do more” call. He told BBC that Pakistan must do more to “break” Al-Qaeda and find Bin Laden.

Also, in a telephonic talk with President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday, he said that he intends to speak about the hunt for Bin Laden.
