Two Maoists arrested with detonators in Jharkhand

Ranchi : Two Maoist rebels, planning to disrupt the second phase of polls to the Jharkhand assembly Dec 2, were arrested Monday from the state’s Ramgarh district and weapons and detonators seized from them, police said.

“Two Maoist rebels have been arrested from West Bokaro area of Ramgarh district. A 9 mm pistol, a country made pistol, six electrical detonators, two bundles of pamphlets and one banner calling for poll boycott were seized from them,” Jharkhand police spokesman V.H. Deshmukh told IANS. Ramgarh is around 45 km from Ranchi

Polling in Ramgarh assembly seat will be held Dec 2.

The arrested rebels belong to the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), which has called on people to boycott the polls.

In the second phase, polling will take place in 14 assembly seats. All these constituencies are in areas considered strong-holds of Maoists.

Five-phased polls to elect members of Jharkhand’s 81-member assembly began Nov 27 and will end Dec 18. Counting of votes will be held Dec 23.
