Rome : A doping case involving international defender Fabio Cannavaro appears set to be dismissed as a sports prosecutor ascertained that it was based on a miscommunication, Italian media reported Saturday.

The 36-year-old player of Juventus was treated with an anti-allergy drug after being stung by a hornet.

Juve doctors gave him a cortisone injection and alerted CONI’s anti-doping department.

An improper communication, which didn’t prevent the test after a Serie A game in late September, may result in a fine for the Turin club.

Italy’s national team coach Marcelo Lippi said he expects Cannavaro to be regularly with the Azzurri Sunday to prepare for the last World Cup qualifier Italy play Wednesday against Cyprus.

The world champion and Ballon D’or 2006 winner was sidelined with a suspension for Italy’s crucial World Cup qualifier at Ireland on Saturday.
