Talking to TwoCircles.net general secretary of Andhra Pradesh unit of PFI, Mr. Javed Ahmad said: “At least 3 lakh people have been affected by the flood and several people have been killed in the state.” “The situation is very critical in the flood-hit areas. Though we are running relief camps in several places but in the state our main camp is in Kurnool district which is badly affected but our volunteers are trying to cover other areas too” he added.

He also admitted that though they are trying they cannot cover all the areas affected by the devastating flood as they have shortage of volunteers and funds.

There are other organizations like Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Safa Betulmal and some regional organizations that are working for the flood-hit people. Now some individuals have also started to distribute relief materials among the affected people.

About government assistance, Ahmed said: Government is also busy to rescue people and to help them but as its workers mainly focus on towns and areas on main roads, there are still lots of rural areas where they could not reach and helpless people are waiting for assistance.

“Presently we are running medical camps and volunteers go to people and take them to camps for medical assistance. We are preparing foods which are brought to the people at their houses by our volunteers” he informed.

“People should come out to help these homeless people irrespective of their religions, castes and creeds because millions of people lost their homes and properties and now they are hungry” he appealed.
